CPLC YOUTH
ORATORY CONTEST
ANNUAL PROLIFE TEEN ORATORY
COMPETITION SEEKS PARTICIPANTS
Every spring high school juniors and seniors from all over California participate in Regional Oratory Contests. Part of a nationwide project sponsored by the National Right to Life, this Oratory Contest encourages teens to use their abilities to share pro-life views with their peers.
Although speaking ability is important, the contest especially seeks to help our teens organize and express their pro-life beliefs. The competition also offers contestants an opportunity to meet and network with other pro-life teens.
Students must write a 5 - 7 minute speech on any pro-life topic (e.g. abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, Planned Parenthood, etc), and present it at a Regional Contest. The regional winner will compete at the State Capitol in the California State Finals on Saturday, April 24, 2010.
The California ProLife Council will provide the winner of the State finals (plus 1 parent) airfare and lodging to represent California and compete for cash prizes ($250, $500, $750, and $1,000) at the NRLC Convention in Pittsburg, PA on June 26, 2010.
Adults, how can you help? YOU are the key to the success of this project in your area. Hosting a Regional Contest for students in your community is rewarding, and as simple as 1, 2, 3!
1. Obtain a location to hold the contest: school, auditorium, library, civic or private organization hall, etc.
2. Set the date and time, anytime prior to April 24, 2010.
3. Determine the prizes for the participants: gift cards from local pro-life merchants, small cash prizes, or any item a pro-life donor would like to contribute.
You may offer 1 prize or several. Sometimes hosts outside of the Sacramento area choose to offer traveling expenses to the State Finals as the 1st prize. Certificates are recommended for all participants.
Notify CPLC with the above details and we will begin promoting your event on our web site and to inquiring students. No Regional Contest is too small. One year the San Joaquin Regional Contest only had one student, and she went on to take 2nd place nationwide! The important thing is to offer students this opportunity that is sure to impact their confidence and pro-life activity for years to come.
