"Facts of Life" Email: July 7, 2005

CURRENT LIFE ISSUES:

u AB 651, the bill legalizing assisted suicide, has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.  It is imperative that we stop this bill now and do not allow the issue to gain momentum in the media. The deadline for the Senate bills to pass out of policy committees has been moved to July 15, which means there is time to schedule and hear the bill next week. CPLC has special pre-printed postcards urging legislators to oppose this ghastly practice. Order some for your friends and family, fill in your legislators names, and we'll even inform you of how they vote! Please contact these members of the Senate Rules Committee and urge no waiver for AB 651 to be heard: 

The following is a list of the Judiciary Committee members, please contact their offices through fax and phone and tell them to vote NO on assisted suicide; if this bill is defeated at the  Committee level, it will not go to a floor vote! 

u Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has called for a special election in November, giving pro-life voters the opportunity to pass a measure allowing parental notification on abortion. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that parental notification is constitutional as long as teens don't have to tell their parents in abuse situations. Supporters of the initiative believe that such an amendment could mean 20,000 fewer abortions in the state each year. While only 600,00 signatures were needed to qualify the initiative for the ballot, pro-life advocates turned in more than one million. Inform your community about this measure, encourage everyone you know to support it! CPLC is working on materials to help you raise awareness, stay tuned for more information!

u Look for CPLC booths at the Christian Home Educators Convention, July 8-10 in Ontario, and the National Catholic Family Conference, July 22-24, in Anaheim!

u ACSI, the Association of Christian Schools International, is preparing for the 2005 series of conferences and conventions. State legislators are acting on your behalf, help them out! 
CPLC provides information on current legislative proposals and makes it easy for you to communicate with your legislative representatives!  Send an email to your representatives in the Assembly and Senate; remind them that you vote pro-life and they should too!
