CURRENT LIFE ISSUES:

u A leading pro-life Catholic group says it plans to conduct an extensive statewide campaign in California on behalf of Proposition 73, the measure that would allow parents to know when their minor daughters are considering an abortion. California voters will head to the polls in November to vote. Fr. Frank Pavone says his group will actively support the measure, saying it's important for the lives of young girls as well as family relations. CPLC has officially launched the CA Parents' Rights Coalition, a project established to pass Proposition 73 this November. You can help by distributing educational materials to your church, school, or community group, holding an informational 'coffee-clutch' meeting in your home, or simply donating to the coalition! Learn more about Prop. 73 and how to get it passed!

u Planned Parenthood responded to the disaster of Hurricane Katrina with self-promotion and free morning-after pills. Victims of Hurricane Katrina are battled rising waters, sickness, and destroyed homes and are seeking basic necessities like food, water and shelter. On Wednesday, Planned Parenthood sent an announcement to its members that the nation's largest abortion business is offering with free morning-after pills and birth control. Morning-after pills, also known as emergency contraceptives, can cause abortions. Planned Parenthood of New York City offered women free abortions and morning-after pills to area victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. This is another instance of Planned Parenthood using serious tragedies and issues for their own promotion. Read the full story at our news page

u Researchers at Auckland University in New Zealand have revealed that unborn children begin to cry in the womb at 28 weeks into pregnancy. The scientists played a 90 decibel noise through a speaker placed on the stomachs of pregnant women and the babies cried because the noise was uncomfortable. Researchers recorded the cries using ultrasound scanners. "It was strikingly like an infant crying. Even the bottom lip quivers," professor Ed Mitchell told the London Sun newspaper. This life-affirming research comes on the heel of a study published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association claiming unborn children don't feel pain from abortions. JAMA's editor says she was "unaware" that the authors of the report include an abortion practitioner and a former NARAL staffer. Such bias damages not only the credibility of the research, but JAMA's credibility as well. Get all the facts from our news page!
