"Facts of Life" Email: July 28, 2005CURRENT LIFE ISSUES: u The Parental Notification Initiative will be on November's ballot as Proposition 73. It is crucial that we educate our communities about this initiative and encourage everyone to support it! Passage of Prop. 73 would require abortion doctors to notify a patient's parents 48 hours prior to her scheduled abortion. This significant legislation would not be subject to the state Supreme Court and could reduce the number of California abortions by nearly 20,000! CPLC is working on materials for you to distribute at your church, school, and community organizations. Learn more about Prop. 73 and keep checking in for the latest updates! u The tragic deaths of four women have again brought the dangers of drug-induced abortion into the media spotlight. After 18 year old Holly Patterson died as a result of taking RU 486 (sold as Mifiprex) in 2003, her parents have worked to bring the hazards of the drug to public attention. A Brown University researcher is publishing a study about the rare and fatal bacterial infection caused by the drug. The Center for Disease Control is investigating the deaths of the four women, all of whom were California residents, and lawmakers are renewing their efforts to call for the drug's removal from the market by the Food and Drug Administration. Planned Parenthood, who administers the drug to customers and has been accused of prescribing the drug in doses different than those recommended by the FDA, claims the medication is safe. Learn more about this story from the CPLC News page. u The Assisted Suicide bill will not stay quiet for long; Assembly member Berg plans to reintroduce it in January! These extra months offer pro-life advocates a great opportunity to educate our communities about the harsh realities of so-called mercy killing, before the media begin to barrage voters with hype.
