Director's Update

Dear Friend of Life,

Thank you for your quick and effective response to the introduction of the Berg/Levine bill to legalize 'physician-assisted suicide.'  This form of voluntary euthanasia is particularly seductive to the modern American mind. And experience has shown that advocates of euthanasia will go to any length to mislead and deceive to accomplish their goal. 

I also want to thank you for remembering that this bill is NOT about any particular faith or the teachings of a particular religion. It is not about the fact that one’s pro-life convictions will be violated.  The cold, hard facts about this insidious practice are damning enough! So keep using them. (Remember, facts are terrible things to waste!)

On this page, you will find e-links to some of the educational tools that you can use to educate and motivate others on the threat of euthanasia.

Those of you attending the hearings have done a great job. But please remember that these hearings are in many ways a show.... the real issue is what happens when the bill is voted on.

Previous experience has indicated that euthanasia advocates will make indication of their 'listening prowess;' will soberly acknowledge your concerns and may even indicate they 'have changed their mind.' They want you to think the fight is over and that you will just move on to something else.

This is precisely what they did in passing laws in Belgium, in Australia's Northern Territories (which was subsequently overturned), in Switzerland and in attempting to pass such laws in South Africa and here in California!

Two years ago, when euthanasia opponents in concert demonstrated the ability to stop them, in committee they publicly announced the bill was dead.... then changed the members of the committee...and passed it out.

Months later, when votes could not be gathered for the floor vote.... and the rules prevented further action on the matter... they let us think the matter dead... and then they changed the rules.

In matters like this it is very important that we be wise and learn from experience.
